Brief & Schedule…
15 week ‘combined’ project.
Produce Title Design.
Produce film title media for the Media Graduate student films.
Base all work on the film-makers original title design, expand and develop original concepts.
Scenario: Tafe Media Graduates are preparing their films for final assessment, and are presenting their films at a premiere event. The production of editing and producing each film for this event is a massive task.
They would undoubtedly benefit from the design knowledge and aesthetic skills that the Graphic Design department have to offer. And we can provide a total solution to creating a visually stunning introduction to each film, whilst providing an excellent folio element for both graduating groups.
- Research/Inspiration Board developed from student film research.
Inspiration Board Sample:
- Storyboard developed from the student film concepts. * Storyboard may be developed as a motion graphics sequence, or rough animatic. [time constraints]
Storyboard Sample: 
- Teams will present a sequence for each Media Graduate Film, and output as specified. If used within their final, broadcast quality will be required.
Title Sequence Sample:
Please produce a well presented package, and communicate regularly with the Media Graduates.
Individual and team submissions will be assessed.
SUBMISSIONS MUST BE IN BY: Friday, NOVEMBER 26
RESULTS WILL BE PROCESSED ON THE 3rd OF DECEMBER.
Presentation elements:
- Story-board.
- Design template and research.
- Motion Graphics sample. [Animatic]
Design template will double as an additional style-guide including the elements:
- Typographic elements and development.
- Illustrative examples and effects. [Video and Photographic treatments on existing footage]
- Photoshop template. [Graphics and Typography integrated]
Student teams will consist of the following groups:
- Art Direction & Administration.
- Illustration/Graphics.
- Motion Design / Effects.
Important Deadline Factors:
- Communication.
- Length of sequence required. title duration.
- Complexity of graphics/effects required.
Production Schedule…
Plan your production around the time required to complete the title.
For example, with a 4 minute title sequence you may require at least 10hrs of work on each key area/frame.
You will need to present NINE PANELS of a Title sequence to represent these key frames, teams present a motion graphics sequence or slideshow utilizing the chosen design elements.
Once you have the Nine Keyframes, you can either print them or submit as a movie file in a slideshow.
project week 01.
Art Direction and Administration teams. Advertising/Corporate.
- Report to Media contact lecturer, and arrange meeting times.
- Collect student film footage, photography and styleguide/synopsis on each film.
- Gather contact details for each film. Report immediately to lecturers.
Graphics and Illustration teams. Advertising/Corporate/Illustration.
- Typographic research, concept development. Film Title.
- Colour and graphics development. Theme/Mood.
- Storyboard roughs/visual development. Effects/Graphic styles.
project week 02.
Art Direction and Administration teams. Advertising/Corporate.
- Develop design template based on discussions with media students.
- Prepare film grabs from whatever media is available, format and label. *STORAGE
- Update this blog by passing on each films info to Mitch Black. Friday 2:30pm D223
Graphics and Illustration teams. Advertising/Corporate/Illustration.
- Typographic research, concept development. Produce film title comprehensives.
- Colour and graphics development. Photoshop HD Template.
- Character/theme visual development. Scan and collate for review. Storyboard v1.
project week 03-07.
Art Direction and Administration teams. Advertising/Corporate.
- 1st AD to Present Storyboard v1 to each film group, relay results to teams.
- Review file and project management.
- Contact film students, and meet for review.
- CHOOSE designs for presentation development, credit originators.
Graphics and Illustration teams. Advertising/Corporate/Illustration.
- Develop graphics based on review, test development.
- Format presentations, and review amongst team.
- Develop motion sequence, produce animatic sample.
project week 08-15.
All teams.
- AD team to refine design elements.
- Motion gfx training and development.
- Week 15 Submit Title presentation, motion graphics or slideshow.
All individuals.
- Week 15 Present storyboard in print. A2 page showing NINE KEY FRAMES, using a presentation template of your own design.
- Week 15 Present design development/inspiration board in either printed or movie format.
- Please choose your own presentation format for both mediums. Research output, or talk to your lecturer.
